TEHRAN – Iran has witnessed a significant increase in pomegranate production this year, according to Zahra Jalili Moqadam, Director General of the Office of Tropical and Subtropical Fruits at the Ministry of Jihad for Agriculture.

 

The country's output has surged by 10,000 tons compared to the previous year, she said.

 

As a global leader in pomegranate production, Iran ranks third worldwide in total output and boasts the highest per capita consumption. The nation is renowned for its diverse pomegranate varieties, cultivating over 800 genotypes.

 

Popular commercial cultivars like Malas Saveh, Shishe Kap, and Rabab are particularly prominent in the market.
