Iran plans to increase
fresh tuna consumption

 


The Iranian Fisheries
Organization (IFO) announced on Wednesday that it plans to increase the
consumption of fresh tuna in the country.



According to the
organization's head, Hossein Hosseini, Iran produces 282,000 tons of tuna per
year, with the majority of it consumed in the form of canned tuna.



He said that the
organization plans to increase the amount of fresh tuna consumed by 10% in the
first phase of its efforts.



Hosseini said that the
organization is working to improve the quality of fresh tuna products and to
increase their availability in markets across the country. He said that the
organization is also working to develop new technologies for the processing of
tuna, including sashimi.



The of the IFO said that
Iran is a major player in the tuna fishing industry, accounting for more than
10% of the total catch in the Indian Ocean. He said that the organization is
committed to sustainable fishing practices and to ensuring the long-term
availability of tuna resources.
