Tehran — Iran is taking steps to expand kiwi production in Astara border city, northwest of Gilan province, and facilitate exports of the fruit to international markets, as officials examine measures to address production and export challenges.

 

The issue was discussed at a meeting held at the Ministry of Agriculture, attended by Vali Dadashi, the representative of Astara in the Iranian Parliament, and senior ministry officials.

 

Participants reviewed the latest challenges facing kiwi producers, as well as obstacles in the export process, and discussed measures to streamline export procedures and create more favorable conditions for Astara kiwis to reach overseas markets.

 

Given Astara’s significant capacity for kiwi production and the importance of the fruit to the county’s agricultural economy, the meeting placed particular emphasis on supporting producers and easing export-related procedures.

 

It was agreed that the relevant departments of the Ministry of Agriculture would follow up on the issues raised and pursue measures to address the concerns of producers and exporters.

 

Officials said streamlined export procedures could help strengthen the presence of Astara kiwis in international markets while supporting the expansion of local production.
