Iran monitoring shrimp reserves in northern waters of Persian Gulf

Iran monitoring shrimp reserves in northern waters of
Persian Gulf

Iran’s Shrimp Research Center has started its first tour to
monitor sea shrimp reserves in northern waters of the Persian Gulf to estimate
the best time for harvest.

According to a recent report by Public Relations Office of
Iran’s Agriculture Ministry, sea shrimp reserves are being constantly monitored
by the Shrimp Research Center located in Bushehr Province, and the
shrimp-fishing season will immediately stop if shrimp reserves drop below the
standard limit.

This issue emphasizes the importance of accurate fishing
management and protection of its stocks for sustainable and continuous economic
exploitation.

The results of the tour will be used to estimate the
appropriate time for fishing shrimp in the region. This information will help
to ensure that shrimp stocks are managed sustainably and that fishermen are
able to catch a sufficient number of shrimps to meet market demand.

According to Abbas Mokhtari, the director general of the
Agriculture Ministry’s Office of Quality Improvement, Processing, and Aquatic
Market Development, 11,104 tons of shrimps worth $37.6 million were exported
during the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (March
21-August 22), registering a 48 and 46 percent rise in terms of value and
weight, respectively.
