Iran makes strides in crop variety development

Tehran – Iran’s Minister of Agriculture, Gholamreza Nouri, announced significant progress in the country’s agricultural research during the 7th Crop Varieties Festival.
Addressing the event, Nouri emphasized the critical role of advanced seed technology and new crop varieties in modern agriculture.
“Improved seeds and new varieties are essential inputs for boosting agricultural production,” he said.
The Minister commended Iranian researchers for developing 89 new crop varieties, expressing confidence that commercializing high-yielding, drought-resistant varieties for strategic crops would lead to complete self-sufficiency in agricultural production.
Nouri further highlighted the economic benefits of these advancements, pointing to the $1 billion saved by the Ministry of Agriculture through domestic seed kernel production. “This demonstrates the productivity gains achieved through technological innovation,” he said.
