Iran
launches major floating cage fish farming project in Qeshm
Iran's
Fisheries Organization has launched a major open sea fish farming project on
the country’s southern Qeshm Island.
According to
Hossein Hosseini, the head of the IFO, the project is a testament to the
government's success in promoting aquaculture in the country.
Iran has
achieved self-sufficiency in the production and deployment of marine cages, he
added.
Hosseini
emphasized the importance of fish cage farming, particularly by the fishing
community, as a means of reducing pressure on fish stocks and boosting the
economy.
He
highlighted several achievements of the government in the fisheries sector,
including, increased aquaculture production, organizing unlicensed fishermen,
establishing stock enhancement centers, electrifying shrimp farms, building and
installing thousands of habitats: These habitats will provide shelter and food
for fish, helping to increase their populations, and training human resources
in specialized high schools.
The official
concluded by expressing his hope that the government's policies will lead to a
significant increase in fish production in Iran.
This project
is a significant step towards achieving the government's goal of increasing
aquaculture production and boosting the economy. It is also a positive
development for the fishing community, providing them with a new and
sustainable way to make a living.
