Hormozgan - The Hormozgan Provincial Organization of Agriculture has announced the installation of the southern province’s first smart GPS tracking devices on camels, marking a significant step toward the adoption of modern technologies in livestock management.

 

Hamid Amighi, Director of Livestock Affairs at the organization, said the new trackers are equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) and a dual charging system powered by both solar energy and electricity.

 

He emphasized that the technology will not only enhance herd management but also significantly reduce the risk of camel–vehicle collisions, contributing to improved road safety.

 

“Aligned with our efforts to integrate modern technologies into the management of both small and large livestock, the first camel-specific tracking device has been installed and activated at a livestock facility in Bandar Abbas County,” Amighi said.

 

According to him, the device is fitted around the camel’s neck in the form of a collar and enables owners or handlers to monitor the animal’s location in real time via a mobile application.

 

This feature facilitates the rapid recovery of lost camels and provides timely alerts when animals approach roadways, helping to prevent accidents and mitigate potential financial and human losses.
