Tehran – Iran has officially joined the FAO's Global Partnership Program for Transboundary Animal Diseases (GPP-TAD), a framework aimed at preventing and controlling livestock epidemics that threaten food security worldwide.

 

Transboundary animal diseases (TADs) increasingly endanger livelihoods and food systems, especially where preparedness is weak. The FAO warns that without coordinated action, outbreaks will grow more frequent and severe, directly hitting food production.

 

The program focuses on five priorities: disease prevention and control, digital surveillance and early warning, risk-based preparedness, emergency response, and stronger legal and financing frameworks.

 

Its goal is to shift countries from crisis response to sustainable prevention, protecting animal, human, and ecosystem health while safeguarding jobs and investments along agricultural value chains.

 

Over 100 FAO member states have already joined the initiative, which mobilizes governments, the private sector, and partners to treat animal disease management as a global public good.
