Iran grain production soars: UDA

Iran
grain production soars: UDA

Iran's grain
production reached an impressive 23 million tons in 2023, marking a 3% increase
from the previous year, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

Wheat, a key
staple crop, saw a significant 6% jump in production, reaching 14 million tons
in 2023 compared to 2022. This puts Iran in 15th place globally for wheat
production, with China holding the top spot at 136 million tons.

While barley
production remained stable at 3 million tons, Iran still secured 10th place in
global rankings. Other grain varieties also contributed, bringing the total to
4.5 million tons in 2023, the report said.

It added
that this agricultural achievement is particularly noteworthy considering the
0.5% decline in global wheat production witnessed in 2023.

Experts
attribute Iran's success to various factors, including improved farming
techniques, water management strategies, and government support for the
agricultural sector.

The news is
welcomed domestically as it bolsters food security and potentially opens doors
for grain exports. It also highlights Iran's potential to play a more
significant role in the global food market.
