Iran eyes pilot intensive shrimp farming in Chabahar
The Iranian Ministry of Agriculture is considering a pilot project for intensive shrimp farming in the Chabahar region on Iran's southeastern coast along the Gulf of Oman, according to the head of the Iran Fisheries Organization.
The project would be located on the shores of the Makran Sea, which is known for its pristine waters and lack of pollution, Hossein Hosseini said.
The project would be a significant departure from the traditional method of shrimp farming in Iran, which is largely carried out in open ponds. Intensive shrimp farming involves raising shrimp in enclosed tanks or raceways, which can lead to higher yields and improved water quality, he added.
Hosseini said the project was still in the early stages of planning, but it had the potential to revolutionize the Iranian shrimp industry.
“If successful, the project could be expanded to other parts of the country, helping to meet the growing demand for shrimp in Iran and around the world.”
