Iran aims to double water efficiency via AI, advanced tech

Tehran - Iran's Deputy Agriculture Minister Safdar Niazi announced that the use of modern technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) could double the country’s water-use efficiency.

Niazi emphasized that transparency and data-driven governance form the cornerstone of modern water management, enabling more accurate and sustainable decision-making.

Speaking on Sunday at the ninth promotional caravan for crop pattern productivity under climate change adaptation, the deputy minister called for the creation of a comprehensive production map tailored to each region’s climate, natural resources, and economic strengths.

He stressed that agricultural planning must be aligned with ecological realities and environmental risks to ensure long-term sustainability.

The deputy minister highlighted that sustainable food security relies on empowering farmers and cooperatives through data-based water governance and integrating innovative technologies and AI in water resource management.

He warned that climate change, soil salinity, and groundwater depletion have become persistent realities rather than distant threats, requiring urgent and practical responses.
