Iran President orders establishment of special task force to address dust storms

President Masoud Pezeshkian, highlighting the growing threat of dust storms to public health, has ordered the establishment of a specialized task force comprising experts, academics, and representatives from relevant ministries and executive bodies.

The president’s directive was issued during the 94th cabinet meeting held on Sunday, where Shina Ansari, Head of the Department of Environment, presented a detailed report on dust storms as a threat, along with national strategies to address the issue.

The specialized task force will be responsible for developing and implementing operational plans to combat dust storms, as well as leveraging successful international experiences.

Emphasizing environmental protection as one of the nation's most vital priorities, President Pezeshkian declared that safeguarding natural resources and ecosystems is a cornerstone of good governance. He stressed that all efforts must focus on preserving the land for future generations and passing on a green, sustainable legacy.

During the session, Minister of Energy Abbas Aliabadi reported a 44% decrease in water resources compared to long-term averages, along with a 36% decline from the previous year, highlighting the urgent need for effective consumption management.

Vice President for Rural Development Abdolkarim Hosseinzadeh addressed the conditions of displaced citizens affected by the 12-day war imposed by the Zionist regime, particularly the challenges faced by students preparing for university entrance exams.

Additionally, Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, Mohammad-Reza Salehi Amiri, presented a report on the ancient Khoramabad Valley, which is estimated to be over 63,000 years old and has recently been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
