Iran Agriculture Minister heads to China for SCO summit

Tehran – Iran's Minister of Agriculture Gholamreza Nouri has traveled to Kunming, China, to attend the 10th meeting of agriculture ministers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.

The two-day summit, which kicked off Wednesday, focuses on strengthening agricultural cooperation among participating nations.

According to a report carried by the official website of the ministry, Nouri is scheduled to deliver a speech at the summit, presenting Iran's key positions for inclusion in the final Kunming Declaration.

He also plans to sit down with several participating ministers from other member countries.

“It's anticipated that his agenda for both the main session and these side discussions will center on proposing solutions to expand agricultural trade and enhance scientific and research cooperation within the agricultural sector among SCO members,” the report said.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a Eurasian political and economic organization of ten member states. It was established in 2001 by the People's Republic of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In June 2017, it expanded to eight states, with India and Pakistan. Iran joined the group in July 2023, and Belarus in July 2024. Several countries are engaged as observers or dialogue partners.
