Moscow – The volume of trade between Iran and Russia is gaining momentum, Iran’s Minister of Agriculture announced during a visit to Moscow.

 

Gholamreza Nouri said that significant quantities of Russian-origin livestock feed have been stockpiled in Iran’s northern ports - a move aimed at bolstering national food security and ensuring a stable supply of essential inputs.

 

He noted that cooperation accelerated following Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s January 2025 trip to Moscow, during which the two countries signed a Comprehensive Strategic Agreement.

 

“Since the President’s visit, the Ministry of Agriculture has intensified efforts to expand cooperation with Russia, especially in the agriculture and food sectors,” he said.

 

According to Nouri, Iran has concluded several commercial contracts with Russian companies and signed additional memoranda of understanding with Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture to facilitate bilateral trade.

 

Russia, he added, has become a reliable source for key commodities, particularly grains and vegetable oils.

 

The minister also emphasized that transforming Iran into a regional food hub is one of the ministry’s strategic goals. “With access to major international transport corridors and open waters, Iran is positioned not only to meet part of its own needs through imports from Russia, he said, but also to expand its role in regional food supply chains.”

 

“Iran can leverage its geographic advantages to engage more deeply in trade with Russia and Russian entities,” he said. “This will enable the country to serve as a central platform for the exchange and distribution of food products across the region.”
