Tehran – The Iranian minister of agriculture unveiled plans to deepen trade in halal products with Malaysia. 

 

During a high-level meeting with Malaysian Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mohammad Sabu, on Wednesday, Gholamreza Nouri highlighted that the current annual trade volume between Iran and Malaysia, valued at approximately $120 million, falls short of the two nations’ vast potential. 

 

He further urged a significant expansion of commercial ties, emphasizing agriculture as a cornerstone for collaboration. 

 

“Iran and Malaysia can unlock new opportunities by leveraging our complementary strengths,” Nouri said, pinpointing technical, scientific, and research partnerships as critical areas for growth.

 

“Iran is making strides in tropical fruit production and trade. By tapping into Malaysia’s experience, we can import high-quality tropical fruits, particularly palm oil, while exporting our premium fruits and agricultural products to Malaysia,” Nouri explained.

 

The Iranian minister also emphasized Iran’s adherence to Islamic halal standards across its agricultural output, positioning halal trade as a strategic avenue for collaboration.

 

He proposed joint initiatives for the production, trade, and distribution of halal-branded products across Islamic nations, with Malaysia playing a pivotal role in regional oversight to ensure quality and compliance.

 

Malaysian Minister Mohammad Sabu, for his turn, commended Iran’s agricultural achievements, particularly its self-sufficiency in poultry and food industries. 

 

Reflecting on his visit to Iran’s Export Capabilities Exhibition (Expo 2025), Sabu remarked, “Iran’s remarkable capabilities in food production and innovation are poised for export not only to Malaysia but to global markets, showcasing its potential as a key player in international trade.”
