China join forces to combat desertification, climate change
Iran and
China are launching a joint research center to tackle desertification and
climate change challenges, focusing on managing runoff and floods.
The
initiative was announced by Ataollah Ebrahimi, head of Iran's Soil Conservation
and Watershed Management Research Institute.
This
collaboration stems from a memorandum of understanding signed last year, aiming
to exchange expertise in watershed management and aquifer protection, he said.
"Pilot
projects are expected to kick off in Khuzestan and Sistan and Balouchestan
provinces," according to Mehr news agency.
"We are
seeking innovative solutions to stabilize dust particles, manage flood
distribution, and implement desalination using local resources," Ebrahimi
explained.
China will
provide technical support and share its experience in handling similar projects,
leveraging its expertise in watershed management.
This joint
effort highlights the growing international cooperation in addressing global
climate issues, particularly in vulnerable regions facing desertification and
water scarcity.
