International Workshop on Subsurface Drip Irrigation
Iranian Agricultural Engineering Research Institute (AERI)
with the contribution of the Iranian National Committee on Irrigation and
Drainage (IRNCID) held a one-day technical workshop on the subject of the
subsurface drip irrigation system on Dec. 20, 2021. The five speakers were
selected (two international speakers from the USA) and three national speakers
from Iran) which were held in webinar format virtually and with the
participation of more than 200 participants.
In this workshop, the following topics were discussed:
1-Application of Drip Irrigation in Central America (by Dr.
Saleh Taghvaeian – Professor of Department of Biosystems and Agricultural
Engineering, Oklahoma State University).
2- Feasibility and benefits of subsurface drip irrigation in
vineyards (by Dr. Hossein Dehghani-Sanij - Associate Professor and D.G. of
AERI).
3-Comparison of subsurface drip irrigation and sprinkler
irrigation for alfalfa in semi-arid regions of Iran (by Dr. Ali Ghadami
Firoozabadi - Associate Professor of AERI provincial division in Agricultural
Research and Training Center and Natural Resources of Hamadan Province).
4- Considerations for design, operation and maintenance of
subsurface drip irrigation systems (jointly presented by Mr. Nasser Valizadeh
from the IRNCID and Mr. Mohsen Abdi from the Deputy Minister of Water and Soil
of the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture).
5- Considerations for the efficiency of subsurface drip
irrigation for crop production (by Dr. Daniel Zakaria - Department of Land,
Air, and Water Resources, University of California, Davis).
