Hormozgan - Iran’s Hormozgan Fisheries Department has formed a task force to monitor, prevent and respond to the potential impacts of El Niño, as part of efforts to protect fishing fleets, aquatic resources and aquaculture facilities.

Hormozgan Fisheries Director General Masoud Barani said the southern province is taking preventive measures in response to weather forecasts and the potential occurrence of unusual climate events.

He said the task force will ensure continuous monitoring of weather and climate conditions, coordination among relevant agencies, timely alerts to fishermen and aquaculture operators, and contingency planning to minimize potential losses.

Barani said Hormozgan, one of Iran’s major aquatic production hubs, is maintaining round-the-clock monitoring and mobilizing its technical and operational capacities to prepare for possible climate-related risks.

The task force is also working on emergency response measures, including putting fisheries protection vessels on alert, securing fisheries infrastructure and strengthening warning systems for fishing cooperatives and fish and shrimp farms.
