Sistan-Baluchestan- The harvest of tropical guava has begun in the city of Rask in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, where more than 2,150 tons of the fruit are expected to be produced this season, local agricultural officials said.

 

Behzad Sha‘li-Bar, head of the Rask Agriculture Jihad Department, said guava is being harvested from 215 hectares of productive orchards across the county and will continue until the end of the harvest period.

 

He attributed this year’s higher yields and improved quality to favorable weather conditions, timely orchard management, and an expansion in the cultivated area.

 

Sha‘li-Bar described guava as one of Rask’s high-value horticultural products, noting that a portion of the harvest will be supplied to local markets in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, while the remainder will be shipped to other provinces.

 

He also highlighted the fruit’s nutritional benefits, saying guava is rich in vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, which help strengthen the immune system, support cardiovascular health, regulate blood sugar, and improve digestion.

 

“Its vitamin A and C content also contributes to healthier skin and better eyesight.”

 

Guava, also known as the 'guava-pear' in various regions, is a common tropical fruit cultivated in many tropical and subtropical regions. The common guava Psidium guajava is a small tree in the myrtle family, native to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and northern South America.
