Golestan harvests 2 tons of farmed caviar for export

Golestan – The Director General of Fisheries in the northern Golestan province has announced the harvest of two tons of farmed caviar from small-scale sturgeon farms in the region, with the entire yield designated for export.

Esmaeil Jabari said that the province’s unique climate and availability of brackish and non-conventional waters make it an ideal location for small-scale sturgeon farming.

He added that raising sturgeon in small, household‑based farms has gained significant popularity in recent years.

According to Jabari, Beluga and Siberian sturgeon are the main species farmed in the province, thriving under its diverse weather conditions.

The fisheries director emphasized that Iranian caviar remains unrivaled in global markets and continues to attract a dedicated customer base.

He further reported that Golestan province currently has 11 operational small-scale sturgeon farms with a combined meat production capacity of 200 tons.

“More than ten new small farms are in the process of obtaining permits. Additionally, a 250‑ton project in the Dasht-e Golestan region and a 2,000‑ton facility along the Qarah Su River coastline are currently under construction.”
