Gilan - The 20th National Caspian Horse Beauty Festival was held in Gilan province, situated along the Caspian Sea in northern Iran, celebrating one of Iran’s most iconic native breeds and highlighting ongoing efforts to preserve its legacy.

 

Saleh Mohammadi, Head of Gilan’s Agricultural Organization, said the festival aims to reaffirm the identity of the Caspian horse and support the revival of this ancient breed in both the province and across the country.

 

He noted that Gilan is the birthplace of the Caspian horse, whose natural habitat lies in the Hyrcanian forests along the southern Caspian Sea.

 

“Recognized internationally as one of the world’s foundational horse breeds, the Caspian horse is safeguarded through conservation programs led by the province’s Agricultural and Natural Resources Research and Education Center, which is responsible for maintaining its genetic resources.”

 

Mohammadi added that the festival also seeks to promote applied research, enhance technical expertise, and expand ecotourism opportunities linked to the Caspian horse.

 

Additional goals include developing youth equestrian sports, stimulating tourism, attracting private investment, boosting employment, and supporting owners of high-performing horses.
