Fars province remains Iran’s leading cotton producer

Fars – Iran’s southern Fars Province continues to lead the country in cotton production, with harvesting now underway across 15,600 hectares, according to the acting head of the provincial Agricultural Organization.

Ahad Bahjat Haghighi said cotton’s output this year is expected to exceed 52,000 tons of seed cotton.

“The harvest began in Darab County in late October and will continue in southern regions until January. Fars consistently accounts for about 25% of Iran’s total cotton production and is known for its high-quality fibers,” he noted.

Haghighi said that the province’s average yield stands at 3.5 tons per hectare, well above the national average of 2.6 tons. Last year, a farmer from Fasa County set a national record with 13.6 tons per hectare.

The main cotton-growing areas include Darab, Zarindasht, and Larestan, cultivating both domestic and foreign varieties such as Golestan, Armaghan, Maxa, and Charisma. Six active ginning factories in Fars currently process the harvested cotton to supply the nation’s textile industry.
