Fars - Iran’s southern Fars province is expanding ridge planting for beans across more than 25,000 hectares as part of efforts to improve water efficiency, optimize farm inputs and increase crop productivity, a provincial agriculture official said.

 

Majid Safari, director of crop affairs at the Fars Agricultural Organization, said the province has more than 47,000 hectares under pulse crops, underscoring the need for more efficient production methods.

 

“The new system combines ridge planting with drip-tape irrigation and fertigation, allowing water and nutrients to be delivered directly to the crop’s root zone. This helps reduce water loss and over-irrigation while ensuring nutrients are supplied according to the plant’s growth needs.”

 

The approach also promotes better root development and soil aeration, improves moisture management around the roots and facilitates irrigation, fertigation and some farm operations, Safari said.

 

He described ridge planting as part of a broader precision farm-management approach, combining proper land preparation and planting with smart irrigation, balanced nutrition, field monitoring and more efficient use of agricultural inputs.
