Communal sheep breeding site set up in
northwestern Iran

Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture has launched
the country’s largest communal sheep breeding center in East Azarbaijan
Province, northwestern Iran, an official said.

Hossein Damavandi-Nejad, the deputy
minister for livestock products, said, “This animal husbandry unit has the
capacity to hold over 32,000 sheep”.

He added that the ministry has invested in
developing fully-fledged breeding centers with the vision of producing quality
livestock through developing a model of efficiency in the field of light
livestock farming.

Akbar Fathi, the head of the province’s
Agriculture Department, also said the unit is aimed at raising mainly flocks of
brood ewes.

He noted that it has created about 100
direct and indirect jobs.
