Bushehr set to produce 4b shrimp larvae

Bushehr– Bushehr province, in southwest of Iran, is expected to produce 4 billion shrimp larvae this year, up from 3 billion last year, thanks to farm restructuring, infrastructure upgrades, and a move away from traditional methods, according to the provincial veterinary chief.

Mohammad Hassan Rahnama announced that following the containment of the AHPND virus and ongoing veterinary monitoring, shrimp production has rebounded from 17,000 tons in 2024 to 30,000 tons in 2025.

He noted that in 2024, an AHPND outbreak had slashed production from 40,000 tons to 17,000 tons. “However, through sustained veterinary oversight and collaboration with relevant agencies and farmers, production recovered to 30,000 tons last year.”

Regarding exports, Rahnama said approximately 13,000 tons of farmed shrimp have been exported from Bushehr so far. "Given the sanctions and existing challenges in production and export, this is a significant achievement for Bushehr and the country," he said.
