Bushehr province 8-month shrimp export stands at over
11,000 tons
Shrimp export from Bushehr province, in the southwest of
Iran, stood at over 11,000 tons in the first eight months of the current
Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023-March 19, 2024), a provincial official
announced.
Aqeel Emami, the director-general of the province’s Fishery
Department, said 11,348 tons of farmed shrimp from the province had been
exported to countries in the Persian Gulf and Eurasia in the first eight months
of this year.
21,000 tons of farmed shrimp had been harvested from 12
shrimp farms in the province so far, he added.
He said that shrimp production in the coastal areas of
Bushehr province this year had been affected by the AHPND disease, which led to
a decline in production.
Emami described AHPND as a bacterial disease that can kill
farmed shrimp. He said that the disease had been brought under control through
training workshops by the Bushehr Fisheries and Veterinary Department.
