Asafoetida plantations mark new step toward sustainable agriculture in Yazd
Tehran - A specialized session on “Planning Asafoetida Plantations Based on the Value Chain and Production” was held alongside the annual gathering of provincial horticulture directors and deputy ministers for crop production in the central province of Yazd, highlighting the role of medicinal plants in promoting sustainable agriculture and a green economy.
The session, attended by Akbar Sheikh-Alishahi, Deputy for Crop Production Improvement; Mohammadreza Ghafarian, Director of Horticulture at Yazd Agricultural Organization; and Mohammadmehdi Shatranji, Head of the Agricultural Engineering Organization of Yazd, concluded with an agreement with a knowledge-based company to design and establish asafoetida plantations in the province.
Sheikh-Alishahi emphasized that the initiative aims to cultivate asafoetida using smart management practices, climate-adapted techniques, and strategies to withstand drought stress - creating a model for sustainable production, regional job creation, and value addition in pharmaceutical and export sectors.
He added that developing asafoetida plantations within a value-chain framework can effectively integrate technical expertise, resource management, and long-term planning for the medicinal plant economy, paving the way for a sustainable and technologically advanced agricultural future.
