Ancient Junipers, Alamut Oaks set for restoration in Qazvin Province

Qazvin– Efforts are underway to restore some of Qazvin Province’s most treasured forests, including 500-year-old junipers and native Alamut oaks, as part of a wider push to revive drought-resistant vegetation.

Azita Asadi, Director General of the province’s Natural Resources and Watershed Management Department, said two forest enrichment projects have been launched - one in the Samghabad reserve, home to centuries-oldJuniperus excelsa, and another in Fashk village in Alamut, focusing on strengthening native oak populations.

The projects are part of Iran’s national “One Billion Trees” initiative, designed to combat air pollution, enhance biodiversity, and help moderate the country’s climate.
