Iran: IFO chief
Head of Iran Fisheries Organization (IFO) Hossein Hosseini
said some 500,000 tons of fishes are targeted to be farmed in cages across the
country.
“The 7th development plan predicts
production of 500,000 tons of fishes in cages in one year. According to the
plan, 317,000 tons in southern waters, 163,000 tons in northern waters and
20,000 tons in domestic waters will be farmed,” Hosseini said.
Achieving the targeted 500,000 tons of fishery requires
infrastructure as well as credits and banking facilities, the official added.
Fishery production has increased noticeably in Iran in
recent years.
Enjoying high quality, Iran’s fishery products were sold
easily in the export markets, and also some new export destinations welcomed
these products in the past three years; as new markets including China, South
Korea, and the Eurasian Union nations opened up for Iranian fishery products.
According to the general policies, the 7th development
plan’s main goal and priority is economic progress coupled with justice with an
average rate of 8 percent during the five-year period, with an emphasis on
increasing the productivity of production factors, including human resources,
capital, technology and management.
