Geneva – The Iranian prestigious Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute took part in the ninth session of the Working Group on the Strengthening of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), held at the Palais des Nations from August 17 to 21, 2026.

The Institute used the platform to present Iran's scientific and technical expertise in vaccine development, biotechnology, and the peaceful applications of life sciences to an international audience.

Established following the Ninth BWC Review Conference, the Working Group is tasked with examining and proposing effective measures to bolster the Convention's implementation across all facets. Its agenda spans international cooperation and assistance, scientific and technological advancements, transparency and confidence-building measures, national legislative frameworks, verification mechanisms, biosafety and biosecurity preparedness, as well as institutional and financial arrangements.

Razi Institute's engagement in Geneva offered a strategic opportunity to share Iran's research capacities and foster dialogue with the global scientific community. The Institute emphasized the critical role of research institutions in advancing international partnerships and capacity-building in biological safety and security.

The participation also enabled valuable knowledge exchange on biosafety, biosecurity, risk mitigation, and enhancing preparedness against biological threats, reinforcing Iran's commitment to cooperative, peaceful bioscience initiatives.

The Working Group continues its work to strengthen the BWC's effectiveness and expand multilateral collaboration. Razi Institute's active presence underscores the growing role of Iran's scientific and technological sectors in supporting the Convention's peaceful aims and contributing to global bioscience cooperation.
