Tehran – Iran's flour milling industry has outgrown domestic demand and must pivot toward export markets to unlock greater value added and productivity, the Minister of Agriculture said on Thursday.

 

Speaking at the inauguration of a 70,000-tonne silo in the Bandar Abbas industrial zone, Gholamreza Nouri emphasized that with the right infrastructure in place, millers could source raw grains from producing nations, particularly northern countries, process them domestically, and export finished products to neighboring and African markets.

 

"This pathway would not only harness our existing industrial capacities but also strengthen the entire grain and flour value chain, generating jobs and economic returns," he added.

 

Hadi Dadgar, chairman of the Marvarid Flour Mill, announced that $7 million had been invested by the private sector to build the new 70,000-tonne silo in the Bandar Abbas industrial park.

 

He said the facility addresses a long-standing hygienic challenge in the grain sector, open-air wheat storage, by offering standardized, climate-controlled conditions that preserve quality and reduce waste.

 

The silo is designed to boost regional grain storage capacity, reinforce supply chain stability, and upgrade food industry infrastructure across Hormozgan province.
