Tehran — Iran is accelerating the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve agricultural data management and decision-making, with applications already being deployed in areas such as fisheries, smart irrigation and crop-pattern planning, the agriculture minister said.

In an interview with the state TV, Gholamreza Nouri said the Ministry of Agriculture is completing its digital systems and using AI to refine, integrate and manage agricultural data and statistics.

“Effective market oversight is not possible without accurate and reliable statistics,” he said, stressing the importance of high-quality data for agricultural planning and market management.

The minister said AI is already being used to guide and implement some of the ministry’s major programs, particularly in fisheries, smart irrigation and crop-pattern reform.

He described the Ministry of Agriculture as one of Iran’s leading government bodies in adopting emerging technologies, arguing that AI and other digital tools could have a particularly significant impact given the vast geographical area and dispersion of agricultural land across the country.

“Iran is moving rapidly toward the smart management of agriculture, in line with other countries that are embracing digital technologies to modernize the sector,” Minister Nouri said.
