Iran produces 363,000 tons of certified wheat seed
Tehran – Iran produced 363,000 tons of certified wheat seed in the current crop year, down from 411,000 tons the previous year, the Agriculture Ministry said.
Aziz Karimi, director general of the ministry’s Grains and Basic Commodities Office, said 429 participatory wheat-selection farms were established this year, along with 194 farms for nutrition trials and 385 for seed-density trials.
He stressed the need for more efficient water management as rainfall returned to normal after several years of drought.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) forecasts global wheat production to fall 3.8% to 810 million tons in 2026, while Iran’s output is projected to rise 14.2% to 13.7 million tons, keeping the country as the world’s fourth-largest wheat producer.
