Zanjan’s Tarom leads Iran in olive production, official says

Zanjan - Tarom county of Zanjan province ranks first nationwide in olive production, with an annual output of around 60,000 tons, according to the head of the local Agriculture Office.

Manouchehr Yarmohammadi said the county has 19,000 hectares of olive orchards, making it Iran’s leading olive-producing region.

“About 70 percent of the harvest is processed in 150 local facilities into table olives, while the remaining 30 percent is sent to oil extraction plants.”

He noted that olive oil production begins in mid-October and continues through late December, with freshly harvested olives transported in ventilated containers to preserve quality.

Yarmohammadi added that Tarom follows a circular economy approach, recycling olive by-products for industrial use, livestock feed, and organic fertilizer, enhancing value across the supply chain while reducing waste and reliance on chemical fertilizers.
