Sistan-Baluchestan key hub for expanding Iran-Pakistan agricultural trade: Official
Sistan-Baluchestan- The head of Sistan and Baluchestan province’s Agriculture Organization said the southeastern province is positioned to play a central role in expanding agricultural trade with Pakistan through enhanced border operations, upgraded logistics infrastructure, and streamlined commercial procedures.
Alireza Dehmerdeh made the remarks while accompanying Iran’s agriculture minister on an official visit to Pakistan.
He said talks focused on prioritizing Pakistan as a supplier of essential commodities for Iran.
“Three specialized meetings with Pakistani traders addressed trade in rice, meat, other staple goods, fruit, and livestock feed. Traders highlighted challenges related to quarantine rules, veterinary requirements, and transit processes.”
The Iranian delegation also held talks with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, in addition to meeting Iran’s ambassador in Islamabad.
Officials say activating border trade capacity in Sistan-Baluchestan could significantly increase bilateral agricultural exchanges and help secure stable supplies of essential goods.
