Yazd — Neyriz County in the central Yazd Province has produced and exported more than 500 tons of high-quality colored bell peppers to Russia and Persian Gulf region, according to the director of the Neyriz Agricultural Organization.

 

The peppers were cultivated in 55,000 square meters of greenhouse space, with approximately 90% of the yield - around 450 tons - graded as top-quality, Nader Zarei said.

 

Russia and the Persian Gulf states have been the primary export destinations for the bell peppers, he added.

 

“With strong market demand and consumer preference for greenhouse-grown bell peppers, this product has become one of the region’s top agricultural exports,” Zarei noted.

 

He emphasized that expanding greenhouse cultivation is part of a broader strategy to reduce water and energy consumption. “Compared to open-field farming, greenhouse cultivation of bell peppers has reduced water use by up to 70%,” he said, underscoring its role in promoting sustainable agriculture in arid regions.

 

Among the main varieties cultivated are Massilia, Nirouin, and HZ Spain, all known for their vibrant colors, excellent taste, and market appeal.
