Gilan - The head of the Gilan Province Agriculture Organization said that approximately 150,000 tons of kiwi fruit have been stored in cold storage facilities across the northern  province, while 50,000 tons have been exported, generating an estimated $80 million in revenue.

 

Saleh Mohammadi stressed the importance of proper harvest timing, noting that orchardists should prevent the fruit’s sugar content from reaching excessive levels in order to avoid softening and quality loss during cold storage.

 

He identified CIS countries, India, and Persian Gulf states as the main export destinations for Gilan kiwi, adding that improving product quality and rehabilitating orchards remain top priorities.

 

He further noted that a traceability program is being implemented under which orchards are assigned QR codes and products are delivered to registered cold storage facilities, with the aim of guaranteeing the quality, identity, and export standards of Gilan kiwi.
