Over 16m livestock vaccinated across Iran nomadic regions
Over 16 million doses of livestock vaccines were administered to small ruminants and 22,000 doses to large ruminants in Iran's nomadic regions during the first three months of 2024, according to Reza Asadi, Director General of the Veterinary Organization's Animal Health and Disease Management Office.
Asadi explained that the Veterinary Organization's vaccination program for nomadic livestock is conducted on a large scale and nationwide, encompassing all areas with both heavy and light nomadic livestock populations.
This approach is tailored to the nomadic movement patterns and grazing practices of these animals.
"Vaccination teams are deployed to hard-to-reach, remote, and mountainous regions with varying climatic conditions to ensure that all livestock receive the necessary vaccinations and immunizations," Asadi emphasized.
He further highlighted that the strategic vaccination program for livestock diseases and zoonotic diseases in nomadic regions is a top priority for the Veterinary Organization, and it is implemented comprehensively in all areas inhabited by nomadic livestock.
Asadi elaborated on the specific diseases targeted by the vaccination campaign, including peste des petits ruminants, sheep pox, lumpy skin disease, foot and mouth disease, rabies, brucellosis, and anthrax.
These vaccinations are administered regularly and continuously to ensure long-lasting immunity, he added.
