Tehran – Iran's Plant Protection Organization has called for an immediate overhaul of the country's pest control strategies in response to climate change-induced agricultural threats, stressing the need for adopting advanced technologies.

 

Maryam Jalili-Moghaddam, head of the Plant Protection Organization, reported alarming changes in pest behavior directly linked to climate change.

 

“New invasive species have emerged due to shifting weather patterns, traditional pests have developed altered migration patterns and behaviors, and existing control methods are becoming increasingly ineffective,” she noted.

 

"Climate change has dramatically impacted pest biology, leading to novel threats and rendering our conventional approaches obsolete," Jalili-Moghaddam said.

 

The organization has prioritized the complete revision of national pest control guidelines, adoption of cutting-edge technologies for pest monitoring and management, enhanced water recycling systems inspired by developed nations, and special budget allocation for climate-resilient pest control, she said.

 

The official emphasized that Iran lags behind developed countries in implementing advanced agricultural technologies. “Like other climate-affected nations, we must modernize our approach—but this demands serious financial commitment.”
