Minister issues message on National Wheat Day

 

Iranian Minister of Agriculture Mohammad Ali Nikbakht, in a message marking the National Day of Wheat and Bread, called the strategic grain wheat and food security a lever of balance of power in international relations.

Following is the full text of the message:

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

National Wheat and Bread Day is a commemoration of efforts from the farm to the table; this path is marked by the labor of the farmer and the pain of the germination of the seed and the cultivation of the product with reliance on God and gratitude for the descent of the rain of mercy to the baking of the bread that sits on the table of our people.

Wheat is a strategic agricultural product with a decisive role in the food security of countries, the main piece of the chessboard of food sovereignty of governments and a lever of balance of power in international interactions.

Iran, the land of wheat fields from Sistan and Baluchestan, southern Kerman, Hormozgan, Fars, Khuzestan and Azerbaijan, the Moghan plain, Khorasan, Golestan and the center, and this golden belt has intertwined the fertile plateau with the warp and weft of wheat ears.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, recognizing the country's enormous capacity to produce this product, has been implementing its support measures for sustainable wheat production for the past two years, with the priority of producing basic agricultural products, and by purchasing 10.5 million tons of wheat from farmers across the country, has taken a step towards self-sufficiency.

On the occasion of March 21st, National Wheat and Bread Day, I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to all wheat growers, farmers and beneficiaries of the field of food independence.
