Kerman – The green mango harvest season has officially commenced in southern Kerman, with local agricultural officials forecasting a yield of more than 3,900 tons this year.

 

Sadegh Hosseinzadeh, head of horticulture at the Southern Kerman Agriculture Organization, announced that picking began in late May.

 

“Currently, about 560 hectares of orchards across Jiroft, Anbarabad, Kahnuj, Rudbar-e Jonub, Manujan, Qaleh Ganj, Jazmurian, and Faryab are dedicated to mango cultivation.”

 

With average yields of approximately seven tons per hectare, total green mango production in the region is projected to exceed 3,900 tons.

 

Hosseinzadeh noted that this volume will play a key role in meeting domestic demand and bolstering the local agricultural economy.

 

He added that, as in previous years, about 90% of the harvested green mangoes will be used in home-based workshops to produce pickles — a popular traditional product in southern Kerman. “The remaining 10% will be left to ripen fully on the tree and harvested in late July for fresh consumption, offering a sweet flavor and rich aroma.”

 

The mango harvest in southern Kerman is expected to continue until the second half of September. Beyond supplying market needs, the crop also contributes significantly to job creation and regional economic activity.
