Iran to launch major sturgeon farm in Hamedan province

Iran has plans underway to launch a major project in the town of Malayer, western Iran’s Hamedan province, to produce over 500 tons of sturgeon fish annually, an official said. 

According to Masoud Norouzi, the head of the Fisheries Department of the Agriculture Organization in Hamedan Province, the project with an annual production capacity of 500 tons of fish will be implemented on a plot of land downstream of the Kalan Dam.

He added that the feasibility study for the 500-ton sturgeon fish production and breeding farm using the Kalan Dam’s water has been completed as one of the strategic and economic programs of the Fisheries Department of this city.

Norouzi said that implementation of this project alone would produce as much caviar as the current fish production in Malayer.
