Iran targets significant reduction in agricultural water consumption

Tehran – The Iranian government has set a major goal of reducing agricultural water consumption to 65 billion cubic meters by the end of the Seventh Development Plan.
This reduction is crucial to address the country's water scarcity challenges and ensure sustainable agricultural practices.
The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, will implement strategies to optimize water usage in agriculture. This includes promoting the use of more efficient irrigation technologies, such as smart irrigation systems, and aligning water allocation with regional crop patterns.
Additionally, the government is encouraging increased investment in water and soil conservation projects. Public and private partnerships will be fostered to address the shortage of government funds and ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives.
By reducing agricultural water consumption, Iran aims to improve water security, protect ecosystems, and enhance the overall sustainability of its agricultural sector.
