Tehran - The Plant Protection Organization of Iran has announced a revision of quarantine regulations to simplify and accelerate the import of alfalfa from all countries, in a move aimed at supporting the nation’s agricultural sector and ensuring timely access to essential inputs.

 

Based on a recent risk assessment, alfalfa (Customs Tariff Code 12141000) has been classified as a low-quarantine-risk commodity. Under the new framework, imports will be permitted with a valid phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin, alongside inspections by plant quarantine experts at border checkpoints and customs clearance facilities.

 

The organization stated that the measure is part of broader national policies to streamline import procedures and strengthen domestic production by securing agricultural inputs without delay.

 

At the same time, it underscored that all imports will strictly adhere to health and quarantine standards to safeguard the country’s biosecurity.
