Iran produces 18m tons of raw animal products in one year: IVO
Bojnourd – Iran produced 18 million tons of raw animal products last year, including red meat, poultry, raw milk, honey, and seafood, according to the head of Iran Veterinary Organization (IVO).
Speaking on Wednesday, Alireza Rafieipour said 20 to 30 percent of that output exceeds domestic consumption, offering a major opportunity for exports and foreign currency earnings.
He noted that 2–3 million tons of dairy products and 20 percent of the country's eggs are exported annually, highlighting the global competitiveness of Iranian livestock products.
Of the total production, roughly 14 million tons go to food consumption, while the remainder, including hides, intestines, and other non-edible waste, is stored and exported under a managed plan.
On red meat, Rafieipour said imports cover about 5 percent of domestic needs. Between 70,000 and 100,000 tons have been imported and stockpiled this year, and thanks to strategic reserves, no supply concerns exist.
