Iran pistachio exports to Europe surge in first quarter of 2024

Iran's pistachio exports to the European Union experienced a significant boost in the first quarter of 2024, according to the Statistical Office of the European Union (EU).
The data reveals a 17% increase compared to the same period last year, with Iran exporting €34 million worth of pistachios to the 27 EU member states. This marks a jump from €29 million exported during the first three months of 2023.
However, the trend differed for shelled and unshelled pistachios. While shelled pistachio exports saw a notable 26% rise, reaching €25.3 million in the first quarter of 2024 compared to €20 million in 2023, exports of pistachios with shells dipped slightly by 3%. This translates to €8.7 million exported in 2024 compared to €9 million the previous year.
Germany emerged as the top importer of Iranian pistachios within the EU during the first quarter, while Iran maintained its position as the second-largest pistachio supplier to Europe, following the United States which exported a significantly higher value of €243 million in the same period.
