Iran fish production reaches new high as fishing season begins

Juybar – Iran's fisheries sector has reached a significant milestone, with annual fish production surpassing 1.4 million tons.
The announcement was made by Hossein Hosseini, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Head of Iran's Fisheries Organization, at the opening ceremony of the sturgeon fishing season in Juybar, Mazandaran Province.
He emphasized the sector's crucial role in ensuring food security, noting that 640,000 tons of the total production came from aquaculture and 777,000 tons from capture fisheries.
The Iranian government has set ambitious targets for fisheries development, aiming to increase annual fish production to 1.8 million tons under the Seventh Development Plan and to 2.6 million tons from aquaculture within a decade.
Advances in aquaculture technology have enabled fish farming in diverse water conditions, contributing to the growth. Hosseini commended the private sector for its pivotal role in driving this expansion, particularly in Mazandaran Province.
The opening ceremony of the sturgeon fishing season was attended by high-ranking officials, including the governor of Mazandaran Province and local representatives. The event took place at the Azadi Larim Cooperative Fishery Company.
