Iran exporting watermelons to Persian Gulf countries
Tehran - Minab County, in southern Iran's Hormozgan province, has become one of the country’s main centers for off-season autumn watermelon production, supplying domestic markets and exporting to regional countries.
Nasser Nourzadeh, head of the Minab Agricultural Office, said this year’s harvest is expected to exceed 60,000 tons.
He noted that Minab watermelons are distributed nationwide, including to Tehran, Azerbaijan provinces, Khorasan, Isfahan, and Fars, playing a key role in stabilizing the Yalda market.
The official added that part of the production is exported to Persian Gulf states, as well as Russia, Iraq, and Turkey, generating foreign exchange and boosting local farmers’ incomes.
