Iran determined to boost trade ties with Russia, minister says

Moscow – Iranian Minister of Agriculture Gholamreza Nouri expressed his country’s readiness for increasing the amount of trade between Iran and Russia.
In a meeting with Russian stakeholders and entrepreneurs in Moscow on Friday, Nouri said, “Approximately 65% of trade between Iran and Russia is related to goods and the agricultural sector.”
He added, “The commodities purchased from Iran and imported into Russia are in significantly lower quantities. We are prepared to provide a large amount of these goods to American traders.”
Through joint investments in agricultural towns and greenhouses, we can produce these products specifically for Russian consumption within Iran, in partnership with Russian investors, the minister noted.
Nouri has traveled to Moscow accompanying Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on his visit to Russia.
The presidents of Iran and Russia signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement for long-term cooperation on Friday.
Speaking at a joint press conference following the signing event, Pezeshkian said the agreement will open a new chapter in relations between the two countries in all arenas, notably in the economic sector.
The new 20-year agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership between Iran and Russia covers the sectors of economy, transportation, energy, health, and agriculture.
The agreement also covers Tehran-Moscow cooperation in the face of common challenges, including natural disasters, organized crimes, and terrorism.
Iran and Russia are both subject to illegal Western sanctions. They have over the past years deepened their cooperation in various sectors.
