Intercropping in sericulture can help improve profitability, economize silk farming
The head of the Iranian National Sericulture Research Center said that implementing intercropping in sericulture and highlighting the importance of its byproducts in line with improving profitability indices will lead to the economization of silk farming.
“The National Sericulture Research Center has prioritized the production of byproducts and technological products in the field of sericulture in addition to main products with a knowledge-based approach in its 4-year program in efforts to achieve the goal of increasing productivity in mulberry fields and economizing sericulture,” Reza Sourati Zanjani said.
He added focusing on byproducts and technological products, especially in the food and health and beauty sectors, in addition to main products could significantly increase the monetary profitability indices in each unit for sericulturists.
Zanjani also added following a breeding project by domestic researchers that lasted about 10 years, since 1401, eight new improved silkworm hybrids have been introduced to the country's commercial production line at the ancestral level, which can lead to a significant increase in production in the coming years.
